Mountain Croatia - home of natural beauties you won't find anywhere else in the world

Mountain Croatia (includes Lika region and Gorski Kotar region) is placed between two big areas of Croatia. This is the least inhabited and the highest area of Croatia. It is home of the Croatian most known ski resort – Bjelolasica as well as many mountain huts, where hikers can rest and refresh themselves. Hiking, enjoying in untouched nature and pure mountain air dominate throughout this area. There are some places you can easily get a feeling that life stopped there hundred years ago or even more. If you are looking for peace, clean and unpolluted nature and fresh mountain air, this is the ideal place for you. Begovo Razdolje is located on the western hills of Bjelolasica and is the highest inhabited place in Croatia (1078 m) and the only inhabited place above 1000 m.

In Lika you can find the oldest and the most known Croatian national park – Plitvice lakes national park, which is since 1979 added to UNESCO's list of world natural heritage. Plitvice lakes consist of 16 individual lakes overflowing one into another from 367 m to 1279 m above the sea level. Besides rich flora and fauna, here you can find many waterfalls, which make this place absolutely magical. And if you really want to enjoy and make your visit to the Plitvice lakes unforgettable, take electric boat ride and just enjoy in the magical beauty of this place which will blow you away.
If you prefer hiking more, here you can really enjoy yourself. In this region you can visit two national parks: the Risnjak national park and the Northern Velebit mountain national park as well as one nature park: Velebit mountain, and strict nature preserves: Bijele and Samarske stijene, Hajducki and Rozanski kukovi and Luka's cave. Luka's cave was discovered in 1999 and is one of the deepest caves on the earth. Mountain Croatia is home of many preserved plant and animal species. Worth visiting are also Cerovacke pecine, the biggest cave complex in Croatia. 20 thousand years old human bones and bronze ax were discovered in the caves.
