Kornati islands - nautical paradise of 150 islands on one place

Can you imagine 150 islands in area of only 320 km2? These are Kornati islands – the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean. There is no clear criteria of an island definition, which is the main reason why the exact number of Kornati islands is not known. The assumption is that Kornati islands consist of 150 islands.
Kornati islands are located in Dalmatia region, west of town Sibenik. It is very easy to reach Kornati islands, as many one-day trips are organized daily during the summer from various towns in central Dalmatia. Two thirds of Kornati islands are protected as national park. The protected area is 217 km2 and consists of 89 island, islets and reefs. The biggest island among them is Kornat island.

Kornati islands are true nautical paradise on earth. Crystal blue water, the crowns of Kornati – cliffs, steeply cut coast facing the open sea, 2700 sunlight a year and the beauty of nature bring many sailors to Kornati islands.
Very interesting to see on Kornati islands is the church of Our Lady of Tarca. Only the apse and a part of foundation remain to this day. In late Middle Age a small church was built inside the foundation.
