Lonjsko Polje Nature Park – the largest protected wetland area in entire Danube basin

Lonjsko Polje Nature Park stretches on 50.560 acres and is the largest protected wetland area in Croatia and the entire Danube basin. It is one of the most endangered wetland areas in the world. The nature park consists of three fields: Lonjsko, Mokro and Poganovo.

The nature in the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park is absolutely amazing. Here you can find the biggest complex of natural and preserved lowland riparian forests in Europe, which cover almost 70% of the park area. When you are watching this area, you get a feeling that this is something we can only see on TV. About 30% of the nature park area cover wet grasslands, which are flooded partially or completely for 30-100 days a year. Livestock as horses, pigs and cows are free to graze there. This is the only area in Europe where the traditional pasturing has been maintained.

Traditional architecture is very well preserved. Houses are made of natural materials such as oak wood and are reflecting indivisibility between man and nature. Krapje village is the only village in Croatia which has the status of Village of the Architectural Heritage. Since 1995 European Heritage Day is held there.
Close to the nature park are many ethno households, decorated in vintage style. There you can live traditional live style, enjoy in untouched nature and traditional cuisine or take a photo safari trip. You can also enjoy in horse riding, hunting, fishing or some other activities which ethno villages have to offer. Everything you need is relax and enjoy the moment.
