Plitvice lakes - natural beauties of the oldest national park in Croatia

Plitvice lakes national park is the oldest national park in Croatia and one of the oldest in Southeast Europe. The national park was founded in 1949 and in 1979 was added to the UNESCO's world natural heritage list.
Plitvice lakes are located in two counties, Lika-Senj county and Karlovac county, and only ten kilometers away from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. They can be very easily reach by car (A1 motorway or the old road which connects Zagreb with the south).

Plitvice lakes consist of 16 lakes, separated into Upper and Lower lakes. The lakes are overflowing one into another from 367 m to 1297 m above the sea level and are connected with gorgeous waterfalls and rivers. The lakes are separated by natural dams of travertine. The biggest like is the Kozjak lake (one of twelve Upper lakes).
Beautiful nature, magical waterfalls, rich flora and fauna extends over 296,85 sq km. The highest waterfall at Plitvice lakes is Veliki slap (en. Large waterfall) at the end of the Lower lakes and over which the Plitvica river falls. And this magical waterfall makes the best background for a wedding photo, as it is possible to get married at the Plitvice lakes natural park.
